Trail:

Lynnhaven River Water Trail

The Lynnhaven River has nearly 150 miles of shoreline. The mission of the water trail is to encourage stewardship through recreational and educational activities related to the watershed’s natural, cultural and historic resources. The watershed is home to many Historic Landmarks, most that date back before the founding of our nation; Adam Thoroughgood House, Adam Keeling House, Lynnhaven House, Francis Land House, Carraway House, Pembroke Manor, and the Ferry Plantation House, just to name a few. The watershed is also home to First Landing State Park, which is both a National Natural Landmark and National Historic Landmark. The Lynnhaven River is the world’s second largest oyster reef restoration program and has considerably higher oyster recruitment than many other sites in the Chesapeake Bay. The River itself supports a high level of recreational boating, fishing, crabbing, ecotourism, educational activities and general environmental observation.
