Hike through G. Richard Thompson Wildlife Management Area with the Sierra Club for a rainbow of Virginia's natural riches.
Hike through G. Richard Thompson Wildlife Management Area for a rainbow of Virginia's natural riches: acres of trillium, native orchids, nesting/migrating warblers, & other bodacious birds. Our adults-only hike is up to 6 miles -- depending on what we find -- on single-track, rocky trails, including a bit of the Appalachian Trail. The hike will be at a slow to moderate pace and there will be intermittent stops to identify wildflowers and use the iNaturalist app -- but this is NOT as slow or short as a typical wildflower hike and it's NOT for hikers with balance problems.
Since a permit is required for Thompson, please advise the hike leader if you already have a day-use permit or a fishing license. Carpooling is strongly encouraged from the Vienna Metro since the trillium parking lot is tiny.
If there is heavy rain, or thunderstorms, the hike will be canceled
*Meet at 7:30 a.m., North Side of Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metro, sidewalk at Kiss & Ride("D" on this map)
