Join us for a paddle to the headwaters of Fairlee Creek, one of the largest tributary streams feeding the upper Chesapeake Bay in Kent County.

Date(s):

Saturday, September 22, 2018 (10:00 am - 12:30 pm)

Overview:

Join us for a paddle on the fresh water reaches of the upper Chester River, departing from an old landing where watermen used to harvest the robust herring runs that once populated the river every spring.  This stretch of the Chester contains wooded swamps, forested shorelines, and marsh edges lined with cattails and wild rice.  Newcomers to this stretch of water will discover a lightly traveled waterway that is only accessible to canoes, kayaks, and other small craft.

Sultana Kayak programs are a great way to explore the shallow creeks, streams, and rivers that flow to our nation’s largest estuary.  During a typical voyage, participants explore scenic, undeveloped portions of one of the Bay’s tidal tributaries while learning about the flora and fauna that make the region so unique. Kayak programs take place on the National Park Service’s Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail and were established with the support of the National Park Service’s Chesapeake Bay Gateways office.  Kayaks are provided so all you need to bring is water, a snack, and your binoculars! no children under 12 .  $30.  Registration
