Experience hiking in the woods listening for calls from the hunters of the night at Gunpowder Falls State Park.

Join us to learn more about owls with a hands-on owl pellet investigation and evening hike. Unlike us, owls eat all of their prey, even their hair and bones! Pretty cool, but they can’t digest these parts. So then what do they do? They regurgitate them in compact pellets! Seems gross, but it is actually super cool and useful for scientists studying owl diet. Using forceps, we will become scientists and dissect real owl pellets ourselves. Then, we will go on a quiet hike through the woods to listen for the calls of these hunters of the night. Quiet is absolutely key for a successful hike, so please plan accordingly when considering the participation of young children. Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring water.
